Web Design & Development

Web design and development that loads fast, ranks, and asks for the call.

Mobile-first builds with the SEO foundation in place from the first line of markup, because retrofitting structure onto a finished site costs more than doing it right.

The short answer

A local business website has three jobs: load fast on a phone on a cell connection, make it obvious within five seconds what you do and where you do it, and make contacting you the easiest action on the page.

If your business is in Renton, the local specifics, service area, matching your Google Business Profile, and neighborhood coverage, are on our Renton web design page.

Most sites fail the third. The phone number is in the footer, the form is three scrolls down, and the hero says something abstract about passion and excellence.

Design decisions that move the number

Conversion on a local business site is not mysterious. A small set of decisions accounts for most of the variance.

  • Above the fold, on a phone. What you do, where you do it, and how to contact you, visible without scrolling on a 390px screen. Not a full-bleed image with a one-word headline.
  • A tappable phone number in the header. For most local businesses the phone is the primary conversion. It belongs in the persistent header as a tel: link, not only in the footer.
  • One page per intent. Every service you want to be found for gets its own page. This is a conversion decision and a search decision at once, because the visitor who searched for one specific thing should land on a page about that thing.
  • Proof near the ask. Reviews, credentials, and specifics placed next to the call to action rather than quarantined on a testimonials page nobody visits.
  • Short forms. Every additional field costs completions. Name, phone, and one open question is usually enough to start a conversation.

Performance is a ranking factor and a conversion factor

Core Web Vitals are part of Google's ranking systems, but the more immediate cost of a slow site is the visitors who leave before it renders. Mobile is where sites fail, and mobile is the crawl Google uses.

We build lean: no framework where markup will do, images sized and served in modern formats, fonts loaded without blocking render, and third-party scripts audited individually because a single chat widget or tag manager container can undo the entire performance budget. Largest Contentful Paint under 2.5 seconds on a mid-range Android over 4G is the bar, measured in the field rather than in a lab on a fast laptop.

SEO built in, not bolted on

Retrofitting search structure onto a finished site is more expensive than building it in. From the start: clean URL architecture with no .html extensions or duplicate-path ambiguity, one h1 per page carrying the target term, a connected schema graph, breadcrumbs, an internal linking structure where nothing is orphaned, and a sitemap that reflects reality.

Where we are replacing an existing site, the migration gets its own plan: crawl the old site, map every URL, 301 everything, preserve the metadata on pages that already rank, and monitor Search Console for a month afterward.

Accessible by default

Semantic markup, keyboard navigability, visible focus states, sufficient contrast, real alt text, and respect for prefers-reduced-motion. This is baseline competence rather than a premium tier, and the same structure that makes a page usable with a screen reader makes it parseable by a search crawler.

How it runs

The build.

Discovery and content collection

What the site needs to do, who it talks to, and, critically, getting the copy, photos, and service details in hand before design starts. Content is what stalls projects.

Architecture

Page structure mapped against commercial intents and target keywords, so the sitemap is a search strategy rather than a menu.

Design

Mobile layouts first, then desktop. Conversion decisions made explicitly rather than inherited from a template.

Build

Semantic, fast, accessible. Schema, redirects, and analytics implemented as part of the build rather than after it.

Migration and launch

Redirect map applied, Search Console and GA4 verified, Core Web Vitals measured in the field, and four weeks of post-launch monitoring.

Questions

Straight answers.

How much does a website cost for a small business in Renton?

A custom, well-built site for a local business generally lands between $3,000 and $15,000 depending on page count, functionality, and whether content and photography are included. Template builds with light customization run lower; e-commerce and booking integrations run higher.

The number that matters more than the build cost is what the site does afterward. A $3,000 site that converts eight percent of visitors outperforms a $20,000 site that converts one percent, and conversion is a design and copy decision, not a budget decision.

How long does a website take to build?

Four to ten weeks for a typical local business site. The design and build are rarely the bottleneck. Content is. Copy, photography, service descriptions, and team bios are what stall projects, so we front-load content collection in week one rather than discovering the gap at launch.

Will my new site hurt my existing rankings?

Only if the migration is done carelessly, and it frequently is. The failure mode is URLs changing without 301 redirects, which drops every accumulated ranking signal on the floor.

A safe migration means a full crawl of the existing site before anything changes, a URL-by-URL redirect map, preservation of titles and meta descriptions on pages that already rank, and Search Console monitoring for several weeks after launch. Done properly, rankings hold or improve because the new site is faster.

Do I need WordPress?

Usually not. WordPress makes sense when you genuinely need a content management system with multiple non-technical editors publishing frequently. For a local business with a stable set of service pages, a static site is faster, cheaper to host, immune to plugin vulnerabilities, and requires no security maintenance.

We choose based on who edits the site and how often, not on habit.
